Skin Novela Before bed can make a real difference. Try to only use skin care products that are hypoallergenic and do not contain fragrances, natural or otherwise, as they may damage your skin over time. Skin lotions and creams typically contain alcohol, which can be very drying to your skin. Check out the ingredients before you buy. If there is alcohol or a fragrance in the solution, pass it up. If your skin is oily, sensitive, or prone to breakouts, do away with bar soaps and bar cleansers. Instead, look for cleansers that are dispensed in pump or spray bottles. The moist, exposed surface of bar soaps, combined with the humidity of an enclosed bathroom, encourages the growth of acne-causing bacteria. If you have sensitive skin, don't use a harsh exfoliating scrub on your face. An exfoliating scrub that contains granules or beads is much too hard on sensitive skin. Prepare a gentle exfoliator that contains a natural ingredient such as oatmeal. Simply mix the oatmeal with a little water and apply to the skin for 20 minutes. After rinsing with warm water, your skin will be soft and have a radiant glow. People with sensitive skin should only exfoliate once a week. If you have sensitive skin, avoid facial scrubs that feel gritty or grainy; they will only make your skin retreat in pain. Instead, wash with a gentle castile soap (Dr. Bronner's is a quirky but reliable brand) and pat gently dry after rinsing. Your sensitive skin is very reactive to its environment and needs the gentlest of treatment. Using grainy scrubs, or especially any products containing AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) will further aggravate your skin's sensitivity, creating redness and irritation. Dry skin can be great in your youth because you do not suffer from acne as much. When you are older, it is important to take better care of your dry skin so you don't get premature wrinkles. Exfoliate your skin to keep it fresh. When you use an exfoliating scrub, it takes off dead skin and allows new skin to regenerate, helping prevent wrinkles. When buying skin care products, always read the label carefully. The fewer the number of ingredients in the product, the healthier it is for your skin. Products that have more natural ingredients instead of pharmaceuticals and chemicals are less likely to cause allergic reactions, unwanted irritation, or other rebound effects. Use a home-made clay mask to soothe and heal your skin. Clay masks can be used for all skin types. You can get a basic green clay from your local health-food store, this is called bentonite clay. Add water or milk to the clay, which comes in a powder form, to create a mask that is the consistency of lotion. Be careful not to over do it with skin care products. If you are constantly trying new products, you may irritate your skin and cause a rash or an acne breakout.
